What is meant by microflora?
Approximatly 100 trillion microorganism live in our gastrointestinal tract. These are: 400 to 500 different types of intestinal bacteria, intestinal fungi and various protozoa. They all form the intestinal flora. The intestinal flora provides an acidic intestinal environment. It is from high importance that the "good" and "bad" bacteria are at equilibrium so that the intestinal flora actually supports our body. This is so important because up to 80 percent of our immune cells live in the intestine. The genitals, such as the vagina are colonized by natural microorganisms.
